For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), ALServices is the "data controller" responsible for your personal data.

What information we collect

We only collect information we genuinely need in order to respond to you and carry out our work. Depending on how you interact with us, this may include:

  • Contact details you provide — your name, email address, phone number, and postal or site address.
  • Enquiry details — any information you include when you contact us through the website, by email, or by phone, including details about the property or site you want secured.
  • Customer and job records — information needed to quote for, carry out, and support security installations, including site details and system configuration.
  • Website data — basic technical information such as your IP address, logged by the servers that host and secure our website (see the Cookies section below).

We do not collect more information than we need, and we do not collect sensitive personal data through our website. The enquiry form on our contact page opens your own email app — nothing you type is stored on this website.

Why we collect it and our lawful basis

Under UK GDPR we must have a valid "lawful basis" for using your personal data. We rely on the following:

  • To respond to your enquiry — our lawful basis is your consent, or our legitimate interest in replying to people who contact us.
  • To prepare quotes and carry out work — our lawful basis is performance of a contract with you (or taking steps at your request before entering into a contract).
  • To provide ongoing support, servicing and warranty — our lawful basis is performance of a contract and our legitimate interest in supporting our customers.
  • To meet legal and regulatory obligations — for example keeping records for tax purposes, our lawful basis is legal obligation.

How long we keep your information

We keep your personal data only for as long as necessary:

  • Enquiries that don't lead to work — kept for up to 12 months, then deleted.
  • Customer and job records — kept for the life of the installation and its warranty, and for as long as required afterwards to meet legal, tax and insurance obligations (generally up to 6 years).

Once we no longer need your data, we securely delete or destroy it.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data to anyone, and we do not share it for marketing purposes.

We only share data where necessary to run the business, for example with:

  • Suppliers and manufacturers — where a specific product order, warranty registration or technical support requires it (for example an alarm panel manufacturer).
  • Professional and IT services — such as our accountant, or the providers who host our website and email, who process data on our behalf under appropriate agreements.
  • Authorities — where we are legally required to disclose information.

International data transfers

Some of the services we use to run the website and email — for example our website host and the service that delivers the fonts on this site — may store or process data on servers outside the UK. Where this happens, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place as required by UK data protection law, such as an International Data Transfer Agreement or an equivalent approved mechanism.

Cookies and website analytics

We use analytics (Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use our website — which pages are read and how people find us. Analytics cookies are only set if you choose Accept on the cookie banner shown on your first visit. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set and the site works exactly the same. We do not use advertising or marketing cookies.

You can change your mind at any time using the button below, or by managing or blocking cookies in your browser settings.

Separately from cookies, two things happen automatically that are worth knowing about: the servers that host this site keep basic technical logs (such as IP addresses) to deliver and secure the site, and your browser requests the site's fonts from Google Fonts, which involves Google's servers receiving your IP address. Neither is used by us to identify or track you.

How we protect your data

We take the security of your information seriously and use appropriate measures to protect it against unauthorised access, loss or misuse. This includes secure passwords, up-to-date devices and software, and limiting access to your data to only what is necessary.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Be informed about how your data is used (this policy).
  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten") in certain circumstances.
  • Restrict or object to our processing in certain circumstances.
  • Data portability — to receive your data in a usable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where we relied on your consent.

How to make a complaint

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please contact us first at andy@alservices.uk so we can try to put things right. We have a process in place to handle data protection complaints and will acknowledge and respond to your complaint.
